Mahendra Mariadassou
Director of Studies (L3)
I am a statistician by training working at the interface between statistics and (micro)biology, with a PhD in statistics from Tokyo University (東京大学) and Université Paris Saclay. My main research interests are evolutionary biology and microbial ecology and most of my work revolves around the analysis of omics data and I'm currently a researcher at the INRAE campus of Jouy-en-Josas. My relationship with LPI (formerly CRI) started a long time ago, back when I was looking for interdisciplinary training as student and enrolled in the AIV master (which still exists as the Life Science Track of the AIRE master), and I'm now the (last standing) Director of Studies for the Bachelor Program, where I spend quite some time teaching mathematics to students and trying to be of good advice.
Mahendra's Bio

I am formally trained as a statistician and started working at the interface between Mathematics and Biology during my second Master with contributions to the statistical modeling of networks. I then started a PhD in evolutionary biology, on the robustness of phylogenetic trees, which I defended in 2009. Since 2010, I work as biostatician at INRAE - MaIAGE (Jouy-en-Josas) where my research focus has focused from evolutionary and comparative biology towards microbial ecology. I also joined the Migale bioinformatics HPC facility in 2018 as a data analyst. I now develop statistical methods for meta-omics data and have an intense collaborative activity as a statistical consultant.

In parallel, I joined the LPI in 2017 as a Director of Studies for the Licence Frontières du Vivant where I coordinate the teachings, am in charge of the pedagogical activities and advise the students.
